Does the tech industry thrive on free work?

- bell-cot 3y agoLead paragraph: > In a meeting the other day, someone mentioned how it's great that you can think of the solution to a bug that's been plaguing you since the start of the day while you're in the shower. Having a solution unexpectedly appear in your head when you're no longer actively thinking about it is pretty great, reinforcing the idea that we should be taking many breaks, and I'm sure many folks have had this. But it got me thinking about how the problems we solve at work often bleed into our non-work time, and the effect it has on our industry. Reaction: There is nothing "tech industry" about this. Most of my ancestors were farmers. In the context of professional work, I first heard this "solution...hours later...in the shower" articulated by an old attorney - who freely admits that she is not good with tech.
