In general I am not a fan of Meta/Facebook but I very much appreciate their support of open models.
Given a choice between locked down AI controlled by a few large corporations and governments or a more open ecosystem, I strongly prefer the second option. There is a lot of great work done to keep things open, so let’s hope for the best outcome.
I routinely run 7B and 13B models at home, and they are capable enough for many types of projects.
- appplication 3y agoYeah this is really the one thing Meta is doing right at present. And sure, the reasoning and corporate strategy behind it is pretty transparent. But it’s still good. Similar to Apple pursuing carbon neutral. Who cares if it’s just dedicated posturing if the outcome is net good.
