WAT? Seriously? Career change? Your parent post is on-point. You can be passionate about your job and still do the things that he said he does. You're gunning for absolutism while parent's post is realist. I love my jobs (yes, all of my employers) but there are few meetings that IDGAF but have to be there because of many reasons. I muted myself and do something else. I used to be an idealist but I slowly changed my approach because I realized at the end of the day, I'm dealing with human beings day-to-day.
