I agree with the fact that it's a funny comparison, but I must point out that Chicago has 37 movable bridges within the city limits, with over half of those located in the downtown core. From a casual Google it seems like there are around 1000 bascule/draw bridges in the US, mostly on shipping channels. So somewhat common along the coasts, Great Lakes, and the Mississippi, but rare in most of the US interior
