How many functional drawbridges in urban areas are there in the US? Seems like a funny comparison. I don’t know of any in the New York metro, and the only one I can think of in the Bay Area is the one at the eastern end of Alameda. Certainly not a common inconvenience that people just put up with.
- ChickeNES 3y agoI agree with the fact that it's a funny comparison, but I must point out that Chicago has 37 movable bridges within the city limits, with over half of those located in the downtown core. From a casual Google it seems like there are around 1000 bascule/draw bridges in the US, mostly on shipping channels. So somewhat common along the coasts, Great Lakes, and the Mississippi, but rare in most of the US interior
