Shame. IBM, for a brief moment there, held onto something precious.
Watson was a shot at "Intelligence Amplification". IA is, neatly, in
many ways the opposite of AI. IBM's ethos was starting with ambitious
goals and working backward to tools and technologies that can solve
them.
By contrast the current wave of transformer AI seems an opportunity
gold-rush based once again on solutions looking for problems.
Being a reader of Edwin Black I'm cautious to call IBM "principled",
but... hey I can't escape it, I kinda just did.
