I am almost certain, but I cannot be sure because I am not a teenagerologist, but vague memories of decades past make me almost certain that peer pressure existed long before the invention of the cellular telephone.
A reasonable and rational age would be that where the parent trusts their child to operate semi-autonomously, leaving the house at will to travel to pre-approved locations and returning according to schedules set by the parent with no supervision in between.
In my case that was age 13. It is irrefutably and unquestionably impossible for a smartphone to be any more dangerous than some of the stuff I got up to at age 13, sans smart (or dumb) phone.
- bitlax 3y agoThat's awesome. Go give your kid a social media addiction to please another 13-year-old.
- snakeyjake 3y agoYou may be right. I should probably keep them away from phones until 18 to prevent social media addiction. I should probably also keep them locked in the house until 18 to prevent drug or alcohol addiction. Or maybe I could just put in the time and effort needed to educate them about the dangers of such things and trust them. Like I already have with my three children who somehow, miraculously, turned out fine. It MAY be that you are right... or maybe you had shitty parents and are thus destined to be a shitty parent?
