I find the show war/advances in shoe technology quite interesting! As a distance running enthusiast, I have to say, the shoes I wear really make a difference to both my endurance as well as my pace (but shoes are not the most important aspect - healthy eating I would say is the most important aspect). I also seem to have brand loyalty to Adidas, but not because of their brand, but rather every time I go shopping for new runners, it’s Adidas shoes that just feel right, with their sock like uppers that accommodate my wide feet perfectly, while also having incredibly light and flexible soles, with a lot of cushioning (because I’m not the lightest runner- so absorbing impact is important for my ankles).
However, I’m not an elite athlete by any stretch of the imagination and I could not justify spending $500 on a pair of shoes for a single marathon. I usually expect a pair of running shoes to last me at least 6 months, but ideally a year. I had a pair of Nikes for a year and while I would say they felt more supportive in my arch and for my ankles, they just always felt too stiff, and narrow so for about a year I struggled to pick up my pace.
