I attended Washington State University in the mid-70s. I had nothing to do with computers except my girlfriend was a Chemical Engineering major taking her one and only required programming class (CS being a subdivision of the Math dept. at the time). I spend long nights with her in the computer center, helping her punch cards and waiting for runs to complete. I had no idea what I was doing, but I collected enough punch cards with the WSU logo on them that I had bookmarks for close to 10 years after. My only other experience with computers before that was a couple of years earlier, when my high school math class visited Boeing and did some sort of computer interaction over a teletype. Probably better than punch cards, but I didn't have my girlfriend with me...
