Israel shot down a ballistic missile in space for the first time
- wiz21c 3y agoif only they could put their might into not shooting things...
- giuliomagnifico 3y agoI agree but if someone shoots something, someone else needs to shoot it down.
- myth_drannon 3y agoThe modern history if the middle east shows that it's easier for them to kill and pillage than build and invent. Is it a culture thing or the nature of the people in that region? I don't know, but looks like this has been going on since the Arab colonializm/Islamic expansion and doesn't look like it will change any time soon.
- inawarminister 3y agoeh, algebra and algorithms were invented by people there. Agreed with modern history though; certainly post European colonization something broke. Especially as the colonization hasn't ended yet.
- jfengel 3y agoThe breaking happened before European colonization. There are (as always) a lot of reasons, but most historians point the finger at Genghis Khan and the Mongols. The fall of Baghdad in 1258 is often cited as the end of the Islamic Golden Age. The area was dominated mostly by the Ottomans until the 19th century. Only then did Europe begin to colonize it in earnest. (They'd been focusing on the Americas instead.) So European colonization plays a big role in what's going on now, but it's distinct from the end of that period from the 8th through 13th centuries where Islamic scholarship far outstripped anything going on in Europe. Unfortunately, all of that broke down, and the world was much the poorer for it.
- h2odragon 3y agoBallistic missiles being a common weapon of oppressed, starving peoples. The cruise missiles the US shot down were interesting, too.
- dgrin91 3y agoPeople in Gaza/West Bank are not the only ones threatening to wipe Israel off the map

- xinuc 3y agoMaybe because Israel shouldn't be there in the first place
- lm28469 3y agoNorth Korea has ballistic missiles... the oppression and starvation levels don't have much to do with a country's military I assume you're hinting at Gaza, oppressed ? I guess you can make that argument, but not that much. Starved ? At 25% overweight/obesity rate this is a comfy starvation
- expertentipp 3y agoSince covid, the bad news are eclipsed with another even worse bad news.
- ceejayoz 3y agoBart Simpson: This is the worst day of my life. Homer Simpson: The worst day of your life... so far. Just wait until places like Bangladesh really start seeing climate change hit.
- slowmovintarget 3y ago> The ballistic missile was launched from Yemen by the Iran-backed Houthis, and flew almost 1,000 miles over the Arabian peninsula on the way to its target, the Israeli port city of Eilat. A city known for... tourism and vacationing.
