In Israel the weekend is indeed Friday, Saturday. The in the US the week has a free day at the start, a free day at the end, and 5 work days in the middle. In the Jewish calendar Saturday is the only free day, Sunday is a regular work day, and is the start of the week - in Hebrew the days of the week are not named, they are simply "1st day", "2nd day", etc. (Israel added Friday as a free day because that's the Islamic holy day.)
