Sometimes to move forward you have to take a step back. Just because some abstractions have become mainstream doesn't mean they are good. I think precisely what many people love about Go is that it throws away lots of unnecessary abstractions and complexity that people have come to expect from languages this days. Go's approach is a breath of fresh air.
