I still do things (and don't do other things, like travel as much) to better the world for myself and others (given I have a level of basic needs and then a grey area of life-improving "needs"), but I no longer delude myself that it matters much on the grand scale. I now put more effort into lobbying my representatives towards science-based regulation.
