I visited southern Mexico in June once. As I stepped out of the airport building I felt oddly disoriented. Was it the sudden heat, or bright sun, or just an effect of travel itself? I eventually realized the reason while staring absentmindedly at a parking bollard -- no shadows! Coming from northern latitudes I'd never experienced this before. Like other commenters mentioned, it reminded me of being in an old video game.
