C++ Sudoku Solver by Singapore PM Lee Hsien Loong
- tralarpa 3y agoLooks more like old-school C to me, although the variable names are a bit too long for a real C programmer :) (but I don't know whether C already had the "const" keyword at that time)
- knome 3y agoIt is C. Otherwise, they would have used `<cstdio>` or `<iostream>` rather than `"stdio.h"` However, it is written in the common parts of the languages, so it will compile under either gcc as a C file or g++ as a cpp file just fine without changes.
- CamperBob2 3y agostdio.h works just fine in C++.
- turminal 3y ago> (but I don't know whether C already had the "const" keyword at that time) It did, "const" exists since C89.
- joak 3y agoThis is a 7 years old news, cool nonetheless. https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2015/05/prime-minister-of-singapore-shares-his-c-code-for-sudoku-solver/ https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2015/05/prime...
- joak 3y agoSimilar story, or even more impressive, since the code was written in emergency and actually useful: https://www.wired.com/story/how-taiwans-unlikely-digital-minister-hacked-the-pandemic/ https://www.wired.com/story/how-taiwans-unlikely-digital-min...
- wenc 3y agoAudrey Tang (formerly Autrijus Tang), Taiwan's minister of digital affairs, was a prolific perl hacker back in the day with many contributions on CPAN. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audrey_Tang https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audrey_Tang
- hedgehog 3y agoAlso a Sandstorm contributor I think.
- gettodachoppa 3y agoGirls rock! Let this be a lesson to those who say women can't be techy hackers.
- coldtrait 3y ago>By the year 2000, at the age of 19, Tang had already held positions in software companies, and worked in California's Silicon Valley as an entrepreneur.[11] >In late 2005, Tang began transitioning to female, including changing her English and Chinese names, citing a need to reconcile her outward appearance with her self-image.
- rowanG077 3y ago... Who says that? Like really. In the dozen or so of years I have spend in the software domain I have literally never hear anyone say that.
- boeingUH60 3y agoWho said that except the straw man you created in your head?
- yen223 3y agoOne of his kids is Li Haoyi. If you're into the Scala ecosystem, you might recognise that name.
- EdwardDiego 3y agoOh wow, that's cool :)
- daxfohl 3y agoHe graduated Oxford with honors in CS and math, so. Also notable, the mayor of Bucharest is a two time perfect scorer on the imo math olympiad. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicu%C8%99or_Dan https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicu%C8%99or_Dan
- wheelinsupial 3y agoCambridge not Oxford. And I guess honors is true, but that's underselling graduating as "Senior Wrangler," the top graduating student in math.
- butz 3y agoWe should make mandatory for EU parliament members to have written at least simple sudoku solver, before writing new laws like chat control.
- zx8080 3y ago> We should make mandatory for EU parliament members to have written at least simple sudoku solver We as who? Engineers are simply nobody for the Rulers of Europe ;-)
