One of the mysteries of life. I don't think people actually prefer them but perhaps they find the closed front more esthetic. Just one example of appearance holding more value than utility. I'm not bothered about toilet seats. I would like to see a discussion about this: toasters that do a piss poor job of making toast because they are designed to fit bagels. Dries out the toast and wastes electricty. Can't find a toaster that is made for only toast.
