New York Is Too Expensive to Even Visit
- eesmith 3y agoAll I got from this was 1) unions are bad because they want their members to make more money at the expense of tourists, 2) the government is incompetent, and 3) conjectures about what might happen if somehow there are no tourists at all in NYC. What I didn't get from this was that it made any sense. Are there any cities which get no tourists? Bhutan famously restricts tourism by charging $200 per person per day. They have tourists, and cities that are not in decline, so it's not like the changes in NYC laws will get rid of all tourists. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Closed_city https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Closed_city lists closed cities, like Norilsk: 'Access to Norilsk is restricted for foreign citizens, who are required to obtain special permission to visit the city' says https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norilsk https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norilsk , while the population continues to grow. And finally, people can be tourists in NYC without renting a hotel room. I've been a tourist while staying with friends who lived there, and my first visit in NYC I didn't even stay in NYC but came in on the LIRR.
