This is the realistic future I think. I’ve had a Ford Escape PHEV for over a year now and like you I basically am always on electric except for long trips. When I’m just driving on gas I get 40mpg. Day to day, charging at home, I average about 1500 miles between tank fills. It’s not as fun as driving a full electric and there is really nothing special about the car itself, it’s just incredibly practical.
