I loved my 2020 Nissan Leaf S+ so much I bought a second one. Now they're going to stop making them, so they can focus on the much larger and more expensive Nissan Ariya. It seems like many other companies are trying to SUV-ize their EV lineup to flush more cash from customers, but there are only so many people who are willing to pay for those monstrosities. People want an affordable, utilitarian car that doesn't cost an arm and a leg and, aside from initial promises, automakers have neglected the market.
- infecto 3y agoPerhaps you think the market is bigger than it really is? Hard to say how to solve it but I think small vehicles do not sell well.
- heresie-dabord 3y agoCheers, the Nissan Leaf is a good car. But not an affordable car. The EV market in North America has not seen a commonly affordable EV. And the economy is causing people to look carefully at the equation of owning any vehicle. > automakers have neglected the market. The US ICE corporations have not neglected their market. They have steered the EV market toward the wall. Now the executives claim in bad faith that "something isn't working". They understand the economics of their industry very well. The only exception to the market that the US ICE corporations have created is Tesla, an undeniable success story. The EV market in the US is estimated to be less than 10% in 2023.[1] If a larger percentage of N.A. consumers want an affordable EV for commuting, they won't find one. Yet. They will however find many truck-like SUVs and asphalt warships such as the Ford F150, the GM Silverado, and the Stellantis Dodge RAM. Perhaps the US ICE corporations simply accepted that China and Telsa will dominate the mid-to-low cost segment of the EV market. We will see how N.A. buyers who want an affordable zero-emission EV for commuting will react to the Fiat 500e with a 42 kWh battery (coming to the US in 2024). [2] Cue the influencers who will say that you will be doomed when (not if) you collide with an asphalt warship. - rsynnott 3y agoAs far as I know, the Leaf is getting a new similar class replacement (not the Ariya) when it’s discontinued in a couple of years?
