Why use this instead of one of the various other speed tests? Off the top of my head:
1. Ookla SpeedTest https://www.speedtest.net https://www.speedtest.net
2. Netflix Fast https://fast.com https://fast.com
3. Cloudflare Speed Test (my personal favorite) https://speed.cloudflare.com https://speed.cloudflare.com

- ssalka 3y agowhy are there multiple versions of anything? people can choose the one they like, and all are different somehow. I personally prefer fast.com because it's quick to type in and typically I'm only looking for download speed, but the real-time graph on this one here is pretty cool
- adamomada 3y agoFast shows you how fast your ISP WAN is, as the speed test goes to your local (ISP) Netflix cache. I like speed tests that go outside the ISP to get an idea of bandwidth to the internet
- icyfox 3y agoFast can also measure some more connection metadata if you click "show more info". A bit annoying it requires the extra step to start measuring ping and upload speed, but it is there.
- Isthatablackgsd 3y agoThere are ISPs out there that give priority and optimized the speed to Ookla Speedtest whenever the browsers connected to it. This causes skewed results believing that we are getting the speed we paid for when it is not in reality. In a way, it would do "unlimited speed" the maximum it can go just for this test. Netflix Fast are connected to multiple Netflix CDNs throughout regions. They will get a realistic speed meter and difficult for ISPs to fake it.
- is_true 3y agoCloudflare is more representative of the general speed. Fast gives me 300Mbps (what my ISP "promises") while cloudflare's give me 75Mbps
- Isthatablackgsd 3y agoFast give me 300Mbps. I haven't tried out Cloudflare speedtest until now, it give me 335Mbps. My internet package is 300Mbps, so it is consistent with the speed that I get from my ISP.
- yjftsjthsd-h 3y ago> why are there multiple versions of anything? Usually, because they're better in different ways. So it seems helpful to ask what this one is good at.
- jrapdx3 3y agoAnother speed test site is https://testmy.net https://testmy.net The site claims superior accuracy (which I can't confirm but probably someone here can evaluate one way or the other). The site offers a number of test options and other amenities. I'll have to try these other sites to see how they compare. Edit: Just tried testmy.net vs. internetspeed.my: testmy.net: download 533.5 Mbps upload 17 Mbps internetspeed.my: download 549.1 upload 19.2 The results are surprisingly similar.
- lopkeny12ko 3y ago"Why?" Sometimes, the most unentertaining answer is the correct one--which is just junior developers creating toy apps to boost their resumes in a tough hiring market. It's the same reason the npm ecosystem is flooded with so many garbage packages.
- nadermx 3y agoShouldn't of put the "made by" on it, I took it down since. Was just trying to appease another commenter who asked for attribution. Not sure what makes some one a junior developer.
- nadermx 3y agoI had never seen cloudflares. And why not make one? I do enjoy programing after all.
