I take my vacations in the northwoods and barely get signal there. Lots of trees and no mountains to park a tower on. The cabin has a landline because you aren't gonna call 911 otherwise. There's also some hilly terrain in northeast iowa where you just can't keep a phone call unless you stop your car. The second you crest the peak you lose line of sight.
