Seemed of note because it's actually been kind of an interesting total flub to watch. Sure Tesla has had other product issues, but nothing quite so utterly abysmal an own-goal. Solar should fit in very well to their overall energy infrastructure portfolio in theory, and offer useful diversification vs EVs while still feeding battery demand and thus economies of scale. And indeed Tesla is doing very well with grid storage, article notes that increasing and I've been very happy with our utility's PowerWall program. But solar just was an utter shambles, and their excuses though are total BS in my opinion:
>“Sustained high interest rates and the end of net metering in California have created downward pressure on solar demand,” the company said in its earnings report.
>During the Oct. 18 earnings call, CEO Elon Musk echoed these sentiments, saying that while Tesla is in a position to endure tough conditions, it is struggling with the current economy.
>“If the macroeconomic conditions are stormy, even the best ship is still going to have tough times,” he said. “If interest rates start coming down, we will accelerate.”
"Best ship" hah! Their most interesting offering, which I had a signed up for, were the solar roofing tiles. And someone I know did indeed get them, and they do indeed look awesome, and from installations in Florida that went through the big hurricane they seem durable as promised as well. But as this article notes in a link to a class action lawsuit Tesla recently settled, wow have they utterly fucked it up. They've had near zilch volume, left customers completely hanging, massively raised prices after contracts were signed and deposits taken, driven away partners nationally, just utterly torpedoed a great deal of interest as badly as I've seen. Total failure, there was clearly no leadership on that one.
