Good lord.
> [Birdwatchers] may not feel very welcome if all the birds are named after these old European ornithologists.
Why the focus on European names? If human names make birdwatchers feel unwelcome (is there any evidence of this?) surely the AOS voted to remove all human names, not just European ones.
> AOS is planning a broader set of discussions with ornithologists and organizations in Latin America before proceeding with Latin American name changes.
The fact that a "broader set of discussions" was not held before removing European names, but will be held before removing LatAm names, sheds light on the unspoken motivations and biases of those in power at the American Ornithological Society.
