How does comparing across architectures work? I would imagine you’d need to have different implementations for each arch, but then that would lead to different optimisations / compilers / etc on each platform, so eg CPUs which are equally powerful in practice might get different benchmark numbers?
- pixelpoet 3y agoThere will ofc be differences between the platforms for various reasons, but (speaking personally) this is kind of part of the "real picture" how those platforms perform at the moment, for better or worse being new or established. We work with the vendors to make sure everyone has a fair chance to make improvements and suggestions etc, and in the end the output has to mostly match (modulo small precision issues, which can also arise because of using hardware ray tracing vs all software). It's not perfect, but I think it's pretty good and a lot of effort was made to be fair and fast everywhere.
