Honestly, it would obviously be better if it was paid, but as you said, the pay is often very low so it wouldn't make much difference. I have cold emailed a few companies but didn't really think about startups as I thought they would not necessarily have enough resources to allocate to an intern (not only financially, but also in terms of mentoring, even though I find myself quite autonomous). I should definitely try that. Thank you for the advice!
