Rather an odd viewpoint. This "FAANG hiring manager" seems to expect someone s/he hires to have no life beyond the workspace. What sort of turnover does s/he consider to be normal? I do the best job I can at work, beyond even what I'm asked to do, and doing something I enjoy in my own time, whatever that is, recharges my batteries. In one extreme case, at a rather deadening job, I decided to learn to fly to stop myself from just resigning.
"Medieval" indeed!
- fuzzfactor 3y agoWhen someone comes along whose code is so good that a small-to-medium percentage of it is more than enough for a decent employer to rake in the bucks on, it would be downright medieval for us to hire such a candidate. We have habitually been screening for and only considering below-average performers using proven techniques and experience has shown that bringing in just a single average-to-above-average performer will disrupt everything and only result in making everyone else look bad.
