Show HN: Chaldean News
I must admit I had not heard the term "Chaldean" until yesterday. Apparently it's some very old (COMPLETELY ARBITRARY) system to map letters A-Z to numeric values 1-8. I'm nothing if not skeptical of claims of magic numbers but I just couldn't resist making Chaldean News:
https://andrewarrow.dev/news
Once you take all the letters in the title of a news story and get their sum, for example, "Okta Core Platform Down" is 14 + 17 + 37 + 22 = 90 you can reduce that number further to 1-9 (in this case 9+0 = 9) and can get it's single digit value. Now you can look at all the 9 stories, all the 8 stories, all the 7 stories, etc. And the million dollar question is: is it really completely arbitrary?
Tell me in the comments if after clicking around Chaldean News if you found a few articles that were interesting that you never would have found without looking for these weird patterns. And if anyone can tell me what makes 9 stories so appealing to me, or why a different number resonates with you, I'm all ears.
- skeptrune 3y agoLmao, I am ethnically Chaldean. I got completely jebaited on this one lol. There is an actual "Chaldean News" magazine that I subscribe to for our community - https://www.chaldeannews.com/ https://www.chaldeannews.com/ . I would love to say that there is some reason for why our numerology resonates with you, but I think it's basically astrology. Imo, it's arbitrary lol.
- andrewfromx 3y agothanks for the tweet! I swear this has totally changed my use of HN. I'm finding such interesting stories. Not saying they are magical per se, but definitely stories of interest.
