Well, duh.. I think that’s kind of the point. So many people use cases anyway to protect their phone, or embed it in a wallet style case. I want the phone to be thin so the phone with a case and a couple of cards is a reasonable thickness for my pocket.
Yeah, if you made it thicker maybe you wouldn’t need a case for protection. But cases also provide customisation, decoration, and protects against scratches.
> You can stick additional 500mAh there so that phone wouldn't die after a mere working day.
IMO cases should be the answer to this too. Although it’s not implemented well enough yet, even with Apples MagSafe. Adding battery for more than a day of active use is a waste of resources for most people when almost everyone will plug it in once a day anyway. If you do it every day it’s a habit and you won’t forget, so it’s the best way to do it.
If you could have a case with extra capacity without adding much thickness, with an efficient connection that doesn’t involve wires (so not sure USB-C or Qi/MagSafe is the right solution), it’d be ideal. The case battery could be discharged first so it’s the first to wear out (which is easy to replace) and the internal battery could last much longer.
Then you could have 2000mAh extra capacity if that suited your use case better and don’t mind a chunky phone.
Battery banks do serve this purpose to some degree of course, and has the benefit that you can continue to use them if you upgrade to a phone with a different form factor.

Everyone can do whatever, but it's the guys who cries about thinness, yet stick them in a giant cases. > Adding battery for more than a day of active use is a waste of resources for most people when almost everyone will plug it in once a day anyway As some who prefers not a razor thin phones (specifically since RAZR MAXX, lol) there is not a lot of difference in weight and size between 3500 and 5000mAh models[0]. Sure, most people plug it in once a day, but I prefer no to panic what my phone is out of juice by the evening if I couldn't plug it in somewhere during the day. With my usage patterns it's up to 3 days easily and one less thing to keep in my mind. That outweighs additional 20g and 0.9mm. > Then you could have 2000mAh extra capacity if that suited your use case better and don’t mind a chunky phone. Sadly there is no usable connector suitable for this, along with a not a bulky enough casing to not to be sued when someone punctures it and burn their home, dog and grandma. Though if you are old enough you can remember what the phones had a regular, replaceable battery and some models also had a bigger battery as an option. We know what happened with that idea of user replaceable batteries (the same shit as with the bump). > Battery banks do serve this purpose to some degree of course, The thing is what pretty often I see people who run their phones of the battery bank. Literally. They use their phones so much (SM and content) what they running out of juice by the evening. I bet at least some of them would've preferred an option to have the same phone they have but with a bigger battery and without the need to haul the b-bank too. NB I'm pretty regularly run around with a three phones at once, it's ~540g in weight and almost 3cm in thickness in sum according to gsmarena. Sure, I'm not 40kg/150cm asian lady, but I really know what it means heavy and thick, lol. Yes, they are often all in the one pocket of my jeans. https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?&idPhone2=10724&idPhone3=12548&idPhone1=12559 https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?&idPhone2=10724&idPhon...
