Unlike in for example the US, UK students only start paying back their student loans when their income goes above a certain threshold, and the amount paid is proportional to income. This makes it more like a progressive graduate tax than a traditional loan. In the US you cannot escape this debt even by declaring bankruptcy. Its hard to say that this is truthful.
