>Unless you lived in a windowless shack, you're leaving out some details, because I don't think a residential dwelling with only one point of egress would be up to code. Not siding with the cops, but also can't side with you, because the retelling appears to not include parts that would have allowed you to exit without escalating anything with the person at the door.
So technically, these homes have a fire exit, but it's a single use deal that takes time to get out of -- basically more of an escape hatch, not something to be used for sneaking out at night. It's to escape a fire, not a physical attack -- you'd be shot or stabbed in the back, cutting yourself on mesh and rock if you tried to use it fast.
So picture a basement with stairs leading up to the main floor, and the cops going "hurr well technically you['re not trapped, you can go out the fire exit if your father points a loaded gun at you and screams from the only safe exit,
Does that help?
I'm happy to go into more detail. I used to avoid small points like that since it gives away information about where they are located, but since the death of Jeffrey Epstein I've had a policy of not aiding opsec of abusers -- propaganda is the selective telling of truths, and folks need to moderate their behavior if they want to both BE and FEEL safe.
