I think there's a big chance it's a bug. Small chance it's a political motivated 'sabotage' from someone low down in the hierarchy. Super low chance it's a political statement from the company management. A funny thing I just noted that could lead to this behaviour is that if you wanted to place the label for Israel at the centre of Israel then I think it would be in Palestine. I'm not 100% sure because Google Maps doesn't show a label for Palestine.
