It's great Apple realized cutting down on ports makes zero sense. My MBP has only two thunderbolt ports. I can see the new MBP also has HDMI, SD, and even microjack. I can finally throw my dongles and hubs away. That's the end of an ugly era.
- supergeek 3y agoYou get back ports, but those base model M3 MBPs only support a single external display. You get HDMI and 3 40gbps thunderbolt ports, but can only use one of them at a time for screens. You need to bump up to the M3 pro models to get multiple external display support.

- CharlesW 3y ago> This new “basic” “pro” has only two thunderbolt 3 ports but “pro” “pro” has four thunderbolt 4 ports. My understanding is that it can't be branded Thunderbolt 4 because it only supports one external monitor, but that it's effectively Thunderbolt 4 in every other respect. The technical explanation for the limitation of the built-in display support is that the base SoCs have one Thunderbolt bus that supports 2 display outputs, one of which is used by the integrated display. Still, there are workarounds: https://www.macworld.com/article/675869/how-to-connect-two-or-more-external-displays-to-apple-silicon-m1-macs.html https://www.macworld.com/article/675869/how-to-connect-two-o...
