Building Test Automation Framework Is a Stupid Idea
- artem001 3y agoDiscover why traditional test automation frameworks waste time and money. Learn the pitfalls of the Page Object Model and how AI can revolutionize testing.
- artem855 3y agoAn enlightening read that underscores a fundamental challenge in the software testing domain. The article astutely points out that the time and resources dedicated to building and maintaining a test automation framework can sometimes overshadow the intended goal - efficient and effective QA. What struck me most was the redundancy of efforts across the globe with QA engineers re-inventing the wheel repeatedly. The introduction of generative AI and the idea of shifting from a page-centric approach to a function-centric one is a game-changer. It not only optimizes testing efforts but also ensures that QA engineers' skills are channeled in the right direction. This paradigm shift is crucial, especially in an era where the pace of software development is rapid and the demands of DevOps and Agile are relentless. The piece serves as a timely reminder for organizations to rethink their test automation strategies and harness the potential of AI-driven solutions for a more efficient QA process.
- pydry 3y agoWhile there's definitely too much wheel reinvention going on in test automation the rush to use LLMs/machine learning is misguided and will ultimately not yield much fruit. Test automation already suffers from not enough consistency and precision and if you jam AI in there too the systemic issue with test flakiness will only get worse. It seems like the function of most AI these days is to get investors excited.
