Starts off with an interesting premise and makes me think, hey, maybe I should re-examine my priors, let's see the evidence. And then the evidence turns out to be something about people who "make more than $100K," and goes on to assert that they "live in gated communities" and "can afford private security." In 2023, "making over 100K" just means that you're usually on-time with your monthly housing payment.
Author may indeed be going somewhere with this, but I'd like to see stronger support for the thesis.
- allemagne 3y agoIf we're talking a security firm paying minimum wage hired by the HOA to do rounds at a gated townhouse complex, that's not some unattainable luxury for someone making "just" $100K.
- waveBidder 3y agoit's funny contrasting California expectations with the rest of the country.
- menshiki 3y agoIt's even more funny seeing it contrast with the rest of the world.
- shric 3y ago> In 2023, "making over 100K" just means that you're usually on-time with your monthly housing payment. This hugely depends on where you live. To 90% (conservatively low) of the world's population making over 100k a year is insane levels of luxury.
- polski-g 3y agoIt is a luxury belief to believe that $100k is a pauper's salary.
- Loughla 3y agoMaking over 100k in my part of the US is an exceedingly comfortable life with a massive 2 story home. This is super dependent on where you live. You may need to step away from city centers for a little bit to see it.
