Show HN: I made a ChatGPT UI that looks like Slack
- seanthemon 3y agoI highly recommended a landing page or a demo, I most certainly don't want to sign up to something I have no clue about.
- spaceman_2020 3y ago+1. If the selling point is UI, give me a preview before you ask for my email
- illyism 3y agoI added a video demo
- marclou 3y agoI knew it was you by seeing the design. Would love a demo video before signing up. Congrats on the launch!
- illyism 3y agoDone! Thank you
- robertlagrant 3y agoThe customer testimonials seem a little parody-like. Are they real?
- baal80spam 3y agoThey are written by ChatGPT /s
- illyism 3y agoThey were from the old design as a placeholder. Removed them :)
- robertlagrant 3y agoAh! Phew :)
- splatzone 3y agoWhen I land on the page my back button stops working - quite annoying. Best of luck
- illyism 3y agofixed, thank you
- mronetwo 3y agoI open the link, "ok, this doesn't seem to be for me", I can't back out of the page because the back button doesn't work and forcibly keeps me on the page, I roll my eyes and close the tab - the entire project is forever dead to me.
- youngNed 3y agoThe problem i have with anything like this is, it is another layer to whom i am giving my data. I have a relationship with chatGPT like i do with google (search) - the questions that are in there, yes could build a picture of me - i don't want any risk of that being filtered off somewhere else.
- illyism 3y agoWould you prefer to self-host this?
- youngNed 3y agoThat would be better. If I am honest, the very fact that something like this, has a gihub, and I can see the code (yes, it might not be the same code) makes me more confident about using a hosted service. But yes, I would possibly use this self-hosted. The potential ability to make plugins for a self-hosted version this is very very interesting.
- jbverschoor 3y agoSafari-> save as an app. Done Not completely, you have to edit a manifest, because ChatGPT’s is incomplete
- edoreld 3y agoOn ios, trying to navigate back reloads the page. I don't know if it's intended but it's quite annoying.
- illyism 3y agofixed, thanks
- Daviey 3y agoReally nice and polished. I was hopeful (but not expectant), that it would use the chatgpt internal API's rather than using the public API as the flat-cost for ChatGPT of $20 can easily give significant cost savings when used heavily, but I am certain this approach is both against their ToS and actively blocked. Still, I really like it! The irony of the Community chat being on Discord rather than Slack isn't lost on me, why did you pick Discord over Slack?
- illyism 3y agoEveryone is on Discord (like Midjourney), it seems. But I think it would be better to actually only offer email and chat support directly. It's hard to build a community, I actually built this back in March and only shared this now. Yeah, official ChatGPT Plus is hard to compete with. They are cheaper than electricity. But I still struggle at times with the UI. Maybe an approach where a chrome extension fixes a few quirks (like categories, prompt library) is a better option for the future.
- tmikaeld 3y ago> I was hopeful (but not expectant), that it would use the chatgpt internal API's rather than using the public API.. They started adding captchas to prevent that, unfortunately. Looks like training data is worth quite a bit for them.
- jbverschoor 3y agoWhy does it say it’s by “magicspace” for Switzerland, but then the domain is in the UAE? I’ll give you exactly 0 access to both my google and ChatGPT account
- illyism 3y agoJust trying to hard to spread backlinks. Fixed it, thanks!
- jbverschoor 3y agoThe link makes more sense on the left like it is right now. It's just that single sign on + no info on mobile that irks me. I had only seen the site on mobile, which just shows a login + powered by. SSO is nice and everything on the net. But everybody seems to want to get all the info they can get. And there's no option to remove for example your name or picture, because apps "require it". Apple solves this better, but some companies detect that and don't allow those email addresses. But I do have serious issues giving access to ChatGPT.. that's like giving access to my search history. On a laptop, it looks very good in terms of graphics. Snappy as well!
- bayesianbot 3y agoI've used about $70 of GPT4 API this month for coding help and chatting, and tried a ton of different self-hosted UIs which I feel like all are lacking and usually end development quite soon after beginning. That being said, this looks really great and more like something I've been looking for. I'll give it a try, but it has to be really good to overcome the negative of not having a possibility for self-hosting. I was little lost there for a moment, I didn't add a project but went straight into settings, which brought up an empty page (with navigation though) with apparently nowhere to go. Only after logging in again and adding a project made it work, so it was little confusing and maybe it should steer you to right direction if you end up on that empty settings page.
