Since "knowledge" has been so hard to explicate, most people who still need a concept like that have moved on to a subjective Baysian model of belief. We can represent degrees beliefs, we can model how those degrees of belief should change due to experience, and use that to do pretty much anything we wanted the concept of "knowledge" to do for us.
