- nimbius 3y agono matter how badly he performs, it could not possibly be worse than watching Bill Gates slouch, grunt, and smirk his way through Microsofts monopoly trial.
- Podgajski 3y agoHold my beer…
- prepend 3y agoAs awkward as Gates behavior was in the monopoly video, I actually kind of liked it as it seemed genuine like someone who was uncomfortable and reacting and thinking. When I watched it years ago it felt like something I would do were I in a situation. Or better I suppose as I would likely sweat profusely, than faint. I thought that despite Microsoft and Gates lawyers and coaching and training, Gates’ self showed through.
- modeless 3y agoWhatever you think about Sundar, he is really good at testifying. His congressional testimony was the best of the tech CEOs.
- hulmiltanion 3y ago[flagged]
- lttlrck 3y agoSo maybe hiring him as CEO was a 4D chess move?
- ranger207 3y agoI wouldn't describe it as 4D. At that level public relations skill is more important for a CEO than tech skills
- ragestorm 3y agoIts significantly easier when Congress can't tell the difference between an iPhone and an Android phone.
- cjdrake 3y agoThoughtful.
- ur-whale 3y ago> Thoughtful. That single one word is the one thing he systematically uses to weasel out of difficult conversations. The full sentence is usually "this is a difficult issue, we have to be very thoughtful about it".
- mpalmer 3y agoThe headline of this post implies he already testified (which would make the piece way more interesting), whereas NPR's headline correctly places his testimony in the future.
- readyplayernull 3y agoWhen you are paid for not talking too much or hiding by ignorance... > Even Google CEO Sundar Pichai doesn’t understand Google’s privacy controls https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2023/10/even-google-ceo-sundar-pichai-doesnt-understand-googles-privacy-controls/ https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2023/10/even-google-ceo-sund...
- waldothedog 3y agoIf you thought this was about the board game, save yourself a click
- junon 3y agoI mean, the name came from the term.. I don't many would think this on HN.
- _jcrossley 3y agoThat’s a cute alternate world you lived in briefly :)
- prepend 3y agoIt would be nice if this was just Pichai making an elaborate boardgamegeek review.
- Mrirazak1 3y agoI watch all of these and I wounded what is truly going to happen. These companies know that legislators are always decade+ behind on regulation and playing catchup. So even if they say Google is a monopoly which is harder to prove than just saying oh you’ve got the most searches and higher market share, that’s success not necessarily a monopoly.
- jakobson14 3y agoThey're not arguing that google is a monopoly. Everyone, including Google, agrees that google has a 90%+ monopoly. The whole point of the case is how google maintains that monopoly, mainly by paying hundreds of billions of dollars to make their product the default everywhere possible. It's (argued) that's the reason google remains at 90%+ market share despite their search product becoming increasingly useless.
