That still exists; it's called the Trabi Safari. I live there and I regularly see, hear, and smell them. Apparently, they have some kind of exemption for pollution rules because otherwise these things are no longer allowed on the streets. The exhaust fumes are nasty. But driving them is a fun thing to do if you have the chance. I did that a few times with visitors and very much enjoyed that.
