I accidentally trapped a mouse this summer, at a campsite crawling with the buggers. I had accidentally left my nalgene water bottle open on a table, and woke up to a drowned mouse. About 4 inches of water, plastic sides, tapered mouth; the poor thing couldn't get a purchase. Mason jars would be cheaper. Granted, bigger rats wouldn't have a problem getting out.
