> After the second time Arshdeep Singh, a supporter of a Sikh political party in Punjab, was threatened by men he believed were affiliated with India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, his father made arrangements for him to leave the country.
This makes zero sense. It has either been spun by the WSJ or the individual in question.
The BJP has almost no political clout in Punjab. It currently holds only 2 seats out of 117 in the legislative assembly. When it was in government, it was as a minor partner in an alliance with the SAD, an unambiguously Sikh party.
The idea that thugs affiliated with the BJP are threatening people in Punjab and making them flee the country is patently absurd.
