I mean, it's on the front page of Hacker News now, does that count?
- simonw 3y agoA Hacker News homepage link drives 10,000 to 20,000 impressions in my experience, which is peanuts compared to a viral TikTok.
- adolph 3y agoWait, people are making tiktoks about your best TILs or something?
- simonw 3y agoSadly not - but TikTok stats are visible so you can see how popular things get and it's way more than tens of thousands of views for anything successful.
- kbenson 3y agoYou just made me think about what it would be like for people to take and summarize the interesting submissions here on tiktok, and more importantly the interesting chunks of comments, and I definitely would watch that if well done. It would take a lot of skill to do well though, and I think that's the secret sauce, as I would read it just as easily as watch it if it existed in that "done well" state.
- Jensson 3y agoThe strong part about comments is that they show many sides. It is hard to find a human who can summarize things fairly, but a group of humans can get pretty close to fairness if you read it all. I don't think you can give a good overview of comments in a short video either, it will likely just be the creators own verdict, so it doesn't replace comments well. I'd say that you don't understand a topic until you feel that both sides are right, and you wont get there from summaries.
- jvalencia 3y agoIf you drove 10-12k views, the algos on TikTok would notice and it probably boosts well beyond the initial bump.
- Cthulhu_ 3y agoHave a computer voice read out the articles, put a playthrough of Minecraft or Subway Surfers on half the video, and you can get 10x that, lol.
