That and the crypto bull market. Imagine being SBF and knowing you could have avoided decades in jail if only you hadn't filed for bankruptcy.

- valyagolev 3y agothis happened to him several times, and each time he ended up betting it all again. if anthropic would make him whole, he'd bet it all on more bullshit crypto
- da-bacon 3y agoIf you rob a bank and then win the lottery, you still robbed the bank.
- loeg 3y agoYeah, but also, if the hole is $0 vs $8 billion, you probably get less jail time.
- chipgap98 3y agoTotally agree but it is a strange situation. Everyone will probably be made whole now
- phatfish 3y agoFeels like the best situation. Those who had their cash/investment misappropriated get it back, and someone who clearly should not have been in a position to have that much responsibility and power has been removed.
- troymc 3y agoTrue, so the bank robber should be tried for bank robbery. The question here is whether the bank can get back some or all of the stolen money, i.e. can FTX customers get back the money & cryptocurrency they gave to FTX for safe keeping, maybe as shares in Anthropic?
- olalonde 3y agoIndeed, but the DOJ might have never found out.
- peter422 3y agoFYI if your creditors are demanding their money back and you don’t have it… you really don’t have many other options. The fact that 1 or 2 years later the people will get their money back doesn’t mean there was any hope of surviving this a year ago.

- olalonde 3y agoSBF claimed multiple times that filing for bankruptcy was the worse decision of his life, so it was presumably a deliberate decision at the time. Not sure how long he could have avoided it though.
- mthoms 3y agoIsn't it interesting that his biggest regret isn't, you-know... stealing customer funds to prop up his failing trading company?
