Ashby's book "Introduction to Cybernetics" (2003)
- dang 3y agoRelated. Others? An Introduction to Cybernetics (1957) [pdf] - https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=10372044 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=10372044 - Oct 2015 (16 comments) (p.s. I put 2003 in the title above because it's the year of the article, although the book it's about was from 1956.)
- xtiansimon 3y agoThis reminds me of wine of my favorite Google NGrams https://books.google.com/ngrams/graph?content=Cybernetics%2Cmachine+learning%2Cartificial+intelligence&year_start=1900&year_end=2019&corpus=en-2019&smoothing=3 https://books.google.com/ngrams/graph?content=Cybernetics%2C...
- growingkittens 3y agoChanging from "Cybernetics" to "cybernetics" changes the curve a bit to show a slow rise.
- Jtsummers 3y agoSelect "case-insensitive" and cybernetics/Cybernetics shows as roughly flat from 2000 on. It also, of course, changes the curves for machine learning and artificial intelligence.
- xtiansimon 3y agoYeah. To the degree these terms are referring to similar pop-notion of the ideas, the spike and decline are interesting repetitions.
- xtiansimon 3y agoAh. case-insensitive is a button that _lights up_ when on, rather than text toggle, because it doesn’t have a triangle icon. I was responding on my phone.
