Being from Northern Ireland, headlines like this always raise and eyebrow.
- deathanatos 3y agoEven in the US, "IRA" commonly means "Individual Retirement Account" … which of course makes no sense in context. (Or, the IRA you're thinking of, too, isn't that unfamiliar.) Even the correct expansion, "Inflation Reduction Act" … doesn't really seem to fit.
- PaulHoule 3y agoWhen I lived an hour from Boston (where a lot of Irish people with money used to send money to the Irish Republican Army) there was the joke that "Contributions to the IRA are not tax deductible" based on the double meaning such that contributions to an Individual Retirement Account are tax deductible.

- tssva 3y agoI'm old enough that IRA isn't the only confusing thing. When I see Net zero I think of the old ad supported free dialup Internet provider.
- dgfitz 3y agoWhich was a spin off from Juno the email client IIRC.
- pauldino 3y agoJuno and NetZero eventually merged but I’m pretty sure they started out totally separate (I used both back in the day)
- talent_deprived 3y agoAgree on both accounts, I was confused why would the IRA be interested in buying NetZero when I read the title.
- meisel 3y agoEvery car that the IRA blows up is one less car polluting the environment.
