It's one of the most famous Freakonomics stories: https://freakonomics.com/2013/10/what-makes-people-do-what-they-do/ https://freakonomics.com/2013/10/what-makes-people-do-what-t.... It intuitively makes sense but I don't think you can draw any universal conclusions from just this study.
