What else could Hatchlings have done to prevent this? I know people are saying, "don't rely on someone else for your profitibility", but if you are going to work with Google what other steps can you take?
He seems to have done all the right things:
1) Found an account manager.
2) Formed relationships with public google folks.
3) Opened discussions to further integration through continued sales.

The affiliate-program market (and that's all Adsense is - a unique form of affiliate program) is almost universally open to this type of abuse. Would you want to work for a company where you never got to meet or talk to your employer, you never knew for sure how much your paycheck would be, or exactly when it would be mailed/deposited? That's what we all do when we signup for Adsense.
