Now this doesn't match my experience at all. The most extreme thing you can do to trigger Play Protect (besides installing an app with a known virus) is to install a self signed apk. Even then it is 2 clicks to bypass. Common APKs like F-Droid won't trigger Play Protect. It's almost exactly like SmartScreen on Windows. Also just disable play protect globally?
