This is a cool project, but the big issue I see is that there are no IDE formatting and checking tools for it. I've been spending a lot of time lately migrating away from things that don't integrate well with standard tools. I used to love Mako Templates, but I've been slowly moving away from them as time goes on. VSCode doesn't know what to do with them, and MyPy doesn't either. On small hobby projects the issues aren't immediately obvious, but once you use a workflow with all the static checks and formatting and all that it's hard to imagine going back.
