Someone should tell him about how git started.
- seanhunter 3y ago^ this right here exactly. For people who are not aware, Linus was actively courted for some time by Larry McVoy to get linux kernel development to use BitKeeper, Larry's new all-singing all-dancing distributed VCS (this is when those were extremely unusual). I think Larry thought if the kernel was hosted in bitkeeper he would be able to sell his thing to every big coroporate for megabucks. After a short period using it with lots of flamewars about licenses etc BitKeeper was dropped and Linus went away for about a weekend and wrote the bones of what became git. Git tookover the world and Larry McVoy never got his dream of parlaying lk dev running on BitKeeper into commercial software success. These days scarcely anyone can even remember BitKeeper. Definitely a very salient comparison to how HashiCorp seems intent on crashing their plane into the mountain.
