Show HN: I am curating the best websites on the internet
- XCSme 3y agoNo way to submit suggestions?
- arianadeli 3y agoYou can email them to abeautifulinternet@gmail.com!
- akprasad 3y agoCongratulations on shipping. I see a lot of focus on startups, AI tools, productivity hacks, tech stacks, etc. What audience do you have in mind? I personally find that the most interesting sites on HN are outside of your scope here (examples: https://ciechanow.ski/ https://ciechanow.ski/, https://neal.fun/ https://neal.fun/, https://search.marginalia.nu/ https://search.marginalia.nu/).
- wowo_hethsgat1 3y agohttps://twitter.com/ratheejaisal https://twitter.com/ratheejaisal is one of the creators of the linked site who also apparently owns startups.fyi which is literally the first website haha
- arianadeli 3y agoI've recently acquired this project from the profile you tagged. I will be removing those websites from the landing page and adding examples from our issues instead! Not to worry, our issues do not include any promotional picks at all. Thanks a lot for pointing it out!
- arianadeli 3y agoThank you so much for the recommendations! I have actually recently acquired this project and plan on expanding the issues to include the best newsletters, articles, videos, tweets, etc. as well. The focus prior was indeed a bit more on AI and startup tools, but I have a broader vision than that. Will be implementing the new sections into our issues slowly, but will be sure to update the landing page to reflect that as well!
- wowo_hethsgat1 3y agoso some of your own websites are the best websites i see no bias here! poster is involved w. startups.fyi and a bunch of others on this site. seems like just another marketing growth hack ninja trick. tired of these
- arianadeli 3y agoAppreciate your comments. Those sites actually don't belong to me, they belong to the previous owner from whom I have acquired this project. I have changed the domain and done some rebranding already, in addition to some changes to the content style. I am adding 2 new sections to the issues and creating a hashtag community on twitter as well. However, it's worth noting that even the previous owner never promoted his own websites on the issues, that link is merely the landing page and those are placeholders. Regardless, thanks a lot for your comment! I will actually take those down and replace them with our most recent mentions.
- wowo_hethsgat1 3y agooh ok appreciate the transparency !
- capital_guy 3y agoThere's a strong bias toward AI in this showcase. My favorite websites are ones that have a lot of hand-made love built into them.
- arianadeli 3y agoThat's simply to increase the appeal of the landing page, our issues have a diverse range of websites. I am even adding two new sections to our issues to cover the best newsletters and the best articles/videos/tweets as well! But thanks a lot, I am completely with you! Will be lowering the emphasis on AI to include broader recommendations.
- swatcoder 3y agoHah. I sincerely love the innocence of this and what it says about cycles in modern history! Once upon a time, many of us would publish our bookmarks on our personal domain, our geocities page, or our blog. It was an everyday thing that acted both as a way to share with others and to make our bookmarks more accessible before magical cloud services and auto-syncing were a thing. Now, some new generation is stumbling into that practice, but gets to color it with a launch announcement because the internet is so pervasively commercialized. And again, I'm not knocking it. I'm just enamored more by what it represents than the particular aesthetics or content.
- arianadeli 3y agoHaha, appreciate the comment. I believe we still do that to some extent, i.e. tweeting out links we like or sharing it to our stories. All in all, I am trying to put together a nice email every week to serve the same purpose you mentioned!
- flir 3y agoHeh. Now sit down, kid, and let me tell you about .plan files... You're right though, it's a lovely project, and probably better for me than any three random google searches. We need more curated internet.
- MrThoughtful 3y agoGreat! I guess it is for the "best lesser known websites"? Because Google is certainly one of the best websites on the web, but I have the feeling it would be out of scope. My top 10 favorite lesser known websites: https://www.gnod.com https://www.gnod.com https://www.lobste.rs https://www.lobste.rs https://www.openculture.com https://www.openculture.com https://plnkr.co https://plnkr.co https://www.remove.bg https://www.remove.bg https://speedwrite.com https://speedwrite.com https://www.ventusky.com https://www.ventusky.com https://www.wolframalpha.com https://www.wolframalpha.com https://news.ycombinator.com https://news.ycombinator.com What great websites do other HNers in their bookmarks?
- arianadeli 3y agoSpot on! Thank you so much for the recommendations, I will review them now and add them to my list!
- addandsubtract 3y agoFYI, this newsletter was just bought up. Email from yesterday: "Hello everyone — It’s Arian Adeli I’ve recently acquired Internet Is Beautiful and I’m looking forward to growing this project further with all of you! I have some exciting plans laid out that I can’t wait for you to see. For now, let’s get on with this week’s issue!"
- arianadeli 3y agoYup, thanks for pointing it out! This project was founded in January, however, I am now taking charge and making changes such as: New content style to include the best newsletters, articles, videos and tweets. A hashtag community on Twitter (X) for everyone to share their favorite links.
- workfromspace 3y agoI wish amongst the criterias these were also included: No-JS support, No-Cookie support and Speed.
